INTRODUCTION: In our democratic set-up, the representatives in parliament are choosen by the people. The constitution provides for adult franchise. Every citizen who is 18 years or above can vote. The citizens are directly involve in the election to LOK SABHA.Members of the RAJYA SABHA are the representatives of the people of the states and of Union Territories. In the case of states they are elected by the elected members of the legislative assembly of the state and in case of Union Territory, by an electoral college.

ELECTION COMMISSION: The election commission consists of the Chie Election Commissioner and such other Election Commissioners as may be appointed by the President. In addition to the elections to the two houses of Parliament and the State legislatures, the election  omission is required to conduct elections to the high offices of the President and Vice-President of India.
